Honey Bear Sugar Cookies

Honey Bear Sugar Cookies
The second OWL Recipe, designed by Nicole Martin of Tea For Me Please, is perfect for an afternoon weekend baking project. This basic sugar cookie recipe is kicked up a notch with tea infused butter. Our kid-friendly Honey Bear blend adds a touch of creamy caramel flavor and is delicious to sip along with these sweet treats.


Makes approximately 5 dozen cookies
  • Approximately 4 teaspoons of The Tealogist Honey Bear blend
  • 1 1/4 cup of butter
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups of flour
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder
1. Place butter and tea in a small sauce pan.

2. Melt butter completely a let simmer for 5 minutes.

3. Use a fine mesh strainer to separate the leaves from the butter and discard them.

4. Place butter in refrigerator until it becomes solid again.
5. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar. Beat eggs and add them to the mixture.

6. Add milk, vanilla, salt and baking powder. Make sure everything is mixed thoroughly.
7. Slowly add flour and stir until a loose dough is formed.

8. Refrigerate dough for at least 1 hour
9. Working in small batches, hand form dough into shapes. If you wish to use a cookie cutter, roll the dough between pieces of parchment paper. You must work quickly as the dough will become sticky if it gets too warm.

10. Place shapes on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.

11. Bake in pre-heated oven at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes or until the edges begin to brown.
12. Enjoy your tasty cookies with a cup of Honey Bear!

What’s in My Cup? Blueberries!


Summer is quintessentially American: The Fourth of July, fireworks, fairs and best of all, food and beverages! Americana is largely defined by the slew of good eats and drinks that you find come summertime. And summer isn’t complete without an essential component to the red, white and blue: berries! From tarts, pies, cookies, jams, even water infusions, blueberries are a staple during the warmer months. America seems to agree, as blueberries are only second to strawberries in consumption. However, not all are aware that the robust fruit provides more than just incredible flavor—it also maintains a host of nutritional benefits.

Most of the star power in blueberries resides in the high level of antioxidants. Also found in many other super-foods such as tomatoes, peaches and kale, antioxidants are naturally occurring vitamins that remove potentially damaging agents within living organisms. Initially used as a defense mechanism to keep the fruit healthy, all the antioxidant benefits transfer to you when consumed. The antioxidants in blueberries are promised to play a major role in skin revival, cancer prevention and brain vitality. Additionally, blueberries are ranked quite low on the glycemic index (GI), which means they are a natural bearer of essential antioxidants and vitamins without the high sugar level content.

Valentine’s Day is upon us, and the Romantic OWL has selected tea blends and brewed up some tea cocktails for those of us aiming to delight our loved one or woo a new one.

Whether you are planning an elaborate affair or a simple evening of amour, a tea toast is the perfect accompaniment.

Sundance 2013

Hoot Hoot!

The Sundance OWL returned once again to Park City this January to set up a “Tea Bar” in the Talent Resources Luxury Suites.

The TR Suites, which earned NY Observer‘s World Cinema Award for Best SWAG, could not be missed in the Gateway Center in Historic Old Town Park City. Between film screenings, parties and trips to the mountain, festival-goers and celebrities stopped by the Suites for a little R & R. The COVERGIRL Beauty Lounge and Dove Color Care Salon offered beauty and hair services to anyone looking for a little extra glamour (or in case there were some late nights).

Other brands alongside The Teaologist in the Suites included ZICO Pure Premium Coconut Water, Sensa Weight-Loss System, National Geographic, Sean John Clothing, Gillette, Sabra Dipping Co., Duracell Powermats, Lenovo Powered by IZEA, LYFE Kitchen, and Hint Water.

Our neighbors, Macaron Magnifique, turned out to be a perfect match for guests looking to pair something sweet with our tea samples, as Octavia Spencer demonstrates, below.

Many other celebrity guests stopped by to say hello to the OWL and pick up custom looseleaf tea blends, tea bags and our special OWL mug by The Teaologist. Sippers included Jane Lynch, Mario Lopez, Kate Voegele, Heather Kafka, Casey Anderson, Alex Lombard, Jennifer Coolidge, Skylar Grey and Scottie Thompson.

Jane Lynch found the Sundance OWL adorable and she wasn’t the only one–a few guests even tried to sneak away with him.

Casey Anderson from National Geographic walked away with a special OWL mug by The Teaologist after sharing his fascination with the creatures.


Arden Myrin and a friend are self-proclaimed “tea freaks” and thoroughly enjoyed the samples.

Skylar Grey insisted she “lives for tea”–a lady after our own heart!

Greetings from San Francisco! The roaming owl has spread his wings and arrived on the West Coast for the 37th Annual Winter Fancy Food Show! For the last few days the Owl has been having a marvelous time in the city by the bay,indulging in the never ending culinary delights the show and city had to offer.

With only three days to sample over 200,000 brands the Owl had to be very deliberate in his exploration of specialty foods. Brands ranged from the natural & organic to cheese to coffee & tea, and with delectable samples waiting around every corner the Owl had to actively try to avoid over filling too early in the day– (which proved to be more challenging than one would expect)!

Making up a small percentage of brands in attendance were tea companies large and small from Japan, China, California, Turkey, New York, and everywhere in between. With 100 tea vendors from all over the world the owl had his work cut out for him as he tried to spread his wings to meet with tea enthusiasts like himself.

Aside from the tea at The Fancy Food Show the Owl sampled numerous other brands, and has included some of his favorites below:

Savannah Bee:    This well kept Southern secret is a locally manufactured honey company serving over 15 types of honey ranging from raw honeycomb to specialty honey. As you know the Owl frequently relies on honey like products to enhance some of our blends in the absence of sugar. We were fortunate enough to meet with Savannah Bee founder, Ted Dennard and absolutely fell in love with his Sourwood Honey product.

 Zhena’s Gypsy Tea: A California based tea company with many similar interests to The Teaologist joined the Owl for drinks to discuss flavors, blends, healthful benefits, and infusions.

 Tillen Farms:  The Teaologist stopped by the Tillen Farm booth to visit our friend Tim Metzger who’s pickeled veggies and no preservative maraschino cherries and Bada Bing Cherries are a favorite ingredient in our tea cocktails.

Takeya USA:  We can’t say enough  about this wonderful brand- since The Teaologist’s inception The Owl and his team have relied on their pitchers to continue to  serve our hot & cold tea. While at The Fancy Food show we stopped by to see their complete line

While the Owl was sad that he didn’t have time to visit all of his usual haunts in San Francisco, he was very glad that the fog stayed away so he was able to take in the Golden Gate Bridge. In addition to all the wonderful brands and flavors the Owl experienced while on the West Coast, he is filled to the brim with inspirations for new blends great for both cooking & cocktails.
